With this proposed mission statement on Wednesday, 8th May, the Jewellery Trade Commission, an authority belonging to CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation which held its 2013 Annual Meeting in Tel Aviv, officially established itself in the Israeli capital.
Participants were provided a presentation by the Commission President and Executive Director of Fiera di Vicenza, Corrado Facco , in which he described the mission of the new body that provides a common forum for trade show organisers serving the jewellery sector.
The mission of the commission, Facco said, is to provide a common platform, and develop options by which the trade can be developed, while upholding the ethics of CIBJO, which include Corporate Social Responsibility, disclosure and fair trade.
"In many respect the new Trade Show Commission is a networking body. It provides us with a recognised forum in which we discuss common issues, and, if possible, develop projects that will serve all of its members," Mr. Facco said. "It also will provide our a community with a collective structure in which we can sit down and talk to members of the jewellery industry - where ideas can be raised, grievances aired and troubleshooting initiated."
"As we have been very careful to emphasise, the Trade Show Commission is no way intended to influence the spirit of fair competition that exists between the various trade show organisations. There is absolutely no intention to create a monolithic organisation that will dictate policy" he stated.
Fiera di Vicenza's commitment has been confirmed by its newly-elected President, Paolo Mantovani , for whom intervening in educating and sensibilising the entire international jewellery production industry on topics of transparency and ethicality is absolutely fundamental.
Potential trade show members have been contacted ahead of the congress, including representatives of Fiera di Vicenza, IBGM, Russia's Restec, the Armenian trade show and the Bangkok trade show. In addition, the organisers of the Hong Kong Gems and Jewellery Fairs, HKTDC, said that they would be willing to serve as observers, while Dubai also pledged its support.

She is learning to ride a quad bike, loves swimming and cooking, and
can't wait to go to Matamata Primary like her big brother Fletcher.
It's a long way from where she was less than two years ago.
Kate was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in August 2011, three months after her third birthday.
In the first year she spent more time in hospital than at home, facing treatment most adults would struggle to deal with.
Kate has earned 1005 beads of courage - provided by the Child Cancer Foundation - that represent the huge mountain she has had to climb to get well again.
Each bead relates to a procedure or experience Kate has had, including nights in hospital, chemotherapy, scans, injections and trips to theatre.
"She knows what she has been through to get them so that makes them special for her," said mum Jackie.
"She's quite proud of them."
Kate had been feeling unwell for about six weeks and had numerous visits to the doctor before she was finally given a blood test.
"Worst nightmare," is the only way Kate's parents can describe the moment they were told Kate had leukaemia.
Jackie took Kate to Auckland's Starship Hospital the next day, and within 24 hours she was in theatre having a PICC line put in her arm, a lumbar puncture and a bone marrow aspirate.
After a week in hospital, Kate and Jackie moved into Ronald McDonald House for another six weeks so Kate could start chemotherapy.
Since then, they have made regular trips to Starship for treatment, as well as to Waikato Hospital when Kate picks up an infection.
Spending so much time in hospital with Kate was hard on Jackie, who had two other children, Fletcher, aged five, and Jessie, aged 16 months at the time.
"It was heartbreaking, every time Kate and I would have to leave for the hospital, I would look back and see their sad little faces in the rearview mirror."
Jackie's husband Marc, who is a sharemilker on his parents' farm on Tower Rd, stayed behind to keep the farm running and take care of the other kids.
"We wanted to try and keep one of us with the other kids at all times," said Jackie.
"All of our energy has gone into making sure all three kids were taken care of best as possible and to get Kate better."
Friends and family - particularly Marc's parents Janette and Cliff - were a massive help, offering relief milking, dropping off meals and helping to look after Fletcher and Jessie.
"If it wasn't for them we would have had to sell our cows and move to Auckland," said Jackie.
Neighbours pitched in, cultivating their maize paddock and mowing their hay and silage, meaning Marc could spend some time with Kate in hospital and Jackie could come home to see the other kids.
"I hope people know how much we appreciate their help and generosity," she said.
Kate is now in the maintenance phase of her treatment and is looking forward to starting school in May.
"It makes you really grateful for what you have and to appreciate all the small things," said Jackie.
"We just love being together as a family."
The Child Cancer Foundation had been "wonderful" for the last 19 months, providing support for the family, including a much-needed holiday in Taupo and food and petrol vouchers.

A Barefoot Journey Back To Me
As a little girl, I could not be tamed, at least when it came to shoes. I loved to run around with my feet bare. It was more than love, actually. It was a need. I felt like I could barely breathe when I wore them. I remember pausing once, what feels like a million years ago, to debate if the sand on the beach was truly too hot for my tiny little feet tolerate. My threshold was quite high, and my heart longed to sink down into the earth with each step but when the sun had shined too brightly once before, I’d felt like my feet were melting.
So much changed in the years between then and adulthood — not the least of which was a former spouse who was afraid of dirty things, including feet. Eventually, I spent more time in shoes than out. I stopped pulling them off at the first opportunity. I would sometimes even put them on when I didn’t actually need them.
I observed myself and wondered what had changed, why the little rebellious barefoot girl kept wearing shoes. It wasn’t that I didn’t long to be barefoot because I did. It was as if… the longing no longer had any actual pull with me. I rather missed being the little girl who couldn’t bear to be shoed.
It was easy to chalk up to maturity, although I didn’t feel particularly mature during that time. Also, I found myself feeling more and more distant from the natural world. I didn’t want to be sticky from sweat. I didn’t want to get dirty, or to feel the grass under my feet for fear that I would get bitten or injured. I didn’t smell flowers, eye the moon as she waxed and waned through each cycle, or feel the magic of the forest surrounding me for morning hikes.
I was growing apart from the earth, I can clearly see now, but I didn’t recognize what was happening.
And then, a woman came to my home, an energy healer, and during her session with my wife, they walked together barefoot in the grass. She spoke of grounding and healing, and while my session was nurturing in its own way, I envied their ritual.
Just like that, I was haunted by the call of the wild once more.
The next morning, I snuck away to be with myself outside. I walked to the edge of the patio, slipped nervously out of my shoes, and stepped off into the grass. It was cool, and moist, and my toes rebelled a bit at first, reaching for the cleanliness of the sky. I coaxed them downward onto the earth and stood there for a while. One step, then another, and another.
