And with the veteran set to miss nearly a third of this season’s run, Strictly fans should get used to seeing the quick-witted brunette on their screens.
Plaudits poured in on social networking website Twitter for Miss Winkleman, who had stepped in to cover for the 85-year-old on Saturday after he was hit by flu.
One wrote: “Claudia Winkleman is such a breath of fresh air! Wonderful.”
Another said: “With all due respect, dear Strictly producers, keep Claudia full time wzbaoxiangcn. The show is fresher and sharper with her involvement.”
Even the performers showed their support – with dancer Robin Windsor, who partners Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, saying: “Hats off to @ClaudiaWinkle and Tess for doing an amazing job in Bruce’s absence...”
Claudia, who is married with three children, usually hosts the Sunday evening results programme and has previously stood in for Sir Bruce.
The 41-year-old’s star turn alongside regular host Tess Daly, 44, is sure to reignite debate as to whether Sir Bruce should retire from the programme, which is in its 11th series telescopic curtain rod suppliers zebra barcode ribbons.
Friends, including Ronnie Corbett, have speculated the veteran performer might step down in the near future.
Sir Bruce has officially arranged to take three weeks off the show this year, meaning that with his unscheduled sick leave he would miss just under a third of the 13-show series which culminates at Christmas.

He said: “I’ve stood on the first at the Open Championship and held my nerve to sink important putts, but Strictly was a different ball game – I was absolutely petrified.
“It was so intimidating dancing in front of a live audience and millions of viewers at home, I just couldn’t let myself go.
“I’ve been playing golf for 60 years, but this was a world I simply didn’t know.
“I hope people think I was game because I gave it my best shot. Although it was brief, I had the most amazing experience and met some fabulous people 2you.”
